Curiosity

Ihsan is now 17 mths old .....his journey as a toddler is as exhilarating as it is...we've got our hands full taking care of him  ...this budding engineer always has something to work on and explore ...it's always an open-and-shut case in our household....he opens it, we shut it....over and over again...the kitchen cabinet, drawers and anything that has a door handle low enough for him to reach....all these will have to be latched as soon as possible.....we're lucky that he has not yet discovered how to open the refrigerator.....(stll remember when we had to install a childproof latch on the refrigerator as Iman opened it about hundred times a day  )
nearly as alluring as the kitchen, bathroom is his another fascinating play space.....at one time or another we tend to forget to keep the toilet latched when not in use.....so whenever he's lucky to find the toilet unlatched, he would throw anything in his little hands into it 
kids are always fascinated by just anything around him ...they like to investigate machines, wires and gadgets......their curiosity typically exceeds their good sense ...and our job is to just keep their lack of judgment from jeopardizing their safety, right

Iman's 1st Day of School
|

it was Iman's first full day of school (8.45 am - 3.38pm)
the night before he was so eager to go to school ...but the next morning he cried when Papa was about to leave  ...
Ms Dunn had to really drag him crying from the entrance door to the classroom ....as told by Ms Dunn, after a couple of minutes he stopped crying and started making friends .... later that afternoon..when we went to pick him up from school.....he seemed so happy ....and eagerly told us that "I didn't cry Mama...I stopped crying, I love school and I won't cry again tomorrow...I have so much fun today"

DIVING INTO KINDERGARTEN

summer break has come to an end.....Iman goes back to school....not to the same preschool he went since he was 3 1/2 but now he goes to elementary school.....
Iman and his friends
Iman's 2005-06 kindergarten school year began on that Tuesday with an Open House .......all parents and children were invited to school.....the Open House gave great opportunity for us & Iman to be introduced to the school.....to help him get excited about coming to school in the fall and to allay any fears or concerns 
Iman's Dolphin classroom is pretty huge with different areas/centers that are purposely designed to help develop their imagination & creativity ......to practise social skills as well as to enhance their reading & counting skills....... :
a library center where the kids read stories on the couch
***a coatroom where each one of them has his own coat hook with his name on it.....
***sand & water center which focuses on sensory experiences (they can get their hands dirty)
***a bathroom for the class only
letter center (where they can match the ABC letters to their spot on the large group rug , and also where they watch videos or listen to stories read by their teachers)
***art center ( where they do coloring & painting)
***listening center ( the kids can listen to a book on tape at the restaurant bench)
***home center / dramatic play ( there are a dining table, stove , kitchen utensils, plastic foods, iron board, washer&dryer.....so here they can have a pretend play.....doing household chores - cleaning up, cooking, laundry etc)
***snack center - ( each day they have snack time in the afternoon and to cover the cost of snacks, parents have to pay $25 for the year)
***puzzle center - where kids put puzzles together at the table
***puppet center - kids can put on a puppet show or role playing using their imagination.
computer center - 4 units for the children's use
Iman's teacher is Ms. Dunn.....however there are other 2 extra sets of eyes watching to give help when needed ......Grandma Anna who works for the foster grandparent program ....assists children when they write.....gives out bandaids & encouraging words
then there is Mrs Ender (an intern) who also helps with the teaching and controlling the class....

Apple Picking

|
we went to the pick-your-own farm that offers varieties of apples with different colors and flavors.....we tried different varieties right from the trees and some of them really tasted better than the ones from store.....their just-picked crispy sweetness that makes them taste real different
after a great walk through the nature trail.....we enjoyed a light lunch by the lake.....
we also stopped at the farm market to get some apple cider - very sweet & fresh(it has a great natural taste with no preservatives)

socializing doesnt come easily to most toddlers ...there were 3 or 4 tots there ( including Ihsan) but they didn't play with each other

we were invited to a little social Indonesian gathering (a picnic at Sleepy Hollow) ......Iman & Ihsan had lots of fun meeting other Indonesian kids.....there were games for kids as well as for moms & dads.....Iman went all out for a win in the doughnut eating contest
this is Saraswaty .....lucu banget
(.... found out that in their language lucu means "comel" but comel means "cakap banyak" )
