Washington DC - Day 3
|
|
does this line ring any bells ?? "Life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get."......if you've watched Forrest Gump, you'd definitely remember it.......and perhaps could still remember one of the great scenes in the film - the reunion scene of Forrest Gump ( Tom Hanks) with his girl pal Jenny in Washington DC's reflecting pool ).....Forrest gives the speech whilst in uniform during the anti-Vietnam rally and Jenny runs out across the water....then Forrest runs towards Jenny in this reflecting pool .
having visited & gotten a couple of shots at the reflecting pool made our touring for the day really special ....
pose cool dari Iman utk Aia
Day 3 consisted of monument hopping. We went back on the National Mall ( I first thought the mall' was an actual mall but it turned out to be a long park in the middle of DC ) ...... we wanted to see some of the things again in the day light ( the places that we only got to see when it went dark on Day 1)....so we revisited the monument that honors America's first president (George Washington). ..... The view from the top of the Washington Monument was pretty impressive ..... and at night, it was also nice to see the city from up there all lit up
Then it was on to the World War II Memorial which I think looks real cool ( this memorial is dedicated to all who served during World War II )

Washington DC - Day 2
|
|
I must say that everything in DC is really well laid out, clean and organised.....I just love the place. The place where we stayed was centrally located downtown - so we got easy access to everything .....the halal food , subway , grocery stores .
The second day started out very well, we got up early , left for Metro & began our walking tour with the help of a guide book much earlier than Day 1. The day was also beautifully clear ( except for the wind chill) , making our touring vastly quite pleasurable.
Getting lost was almost impossible since Papa had been there before like 9 or 10 yrs ago (masa zaman bujang dgn kawan2 )...and another reason is that getting around DC is real easy .
Papa is also a good planner ( so far, during all our family vacations we typically knew what we would see and be doing during our trip, everything was carefully planned ...for that we are very much thankful to Papa) .....
Our tour for the day encompassed the National Mall (Smithsonian Museums) and all the other big sights, finishing up on Capitol Hill. They were all pretty impressive as were the numerous other grand city buildings. Anyway all the museums and monuments are free ( so we got to wander thru the history of the land of the free for FREE)

Iman had lots of fun at the various Smithsonian Museums, especially at the Natural History Museum where there is an array of things to do to teach you all about dinosaurs . Ihsan too looked very interested throughout the visit.
We had to drag ourselves away in order to make it to the Air & Space Museum before closing time. There we took a quick turn around. (Iman enjoyed seeing the first plane the wright bros built, the Neal Armstrongs space suit that he used on the moon, planes, rockets and other boy stuff) .
Before it went dark we went to see the US Capitol & snapped more pictures. Then we took the evening to relax and catch up, ready for another touring the next day

Oh, What a trip !......Nothing is more fun, rewarding & memorable than a successful family trip where the boys & us truly enjoyed ourselves while experiencing the new adventure together.......
It was Mama & the boys' first trip to DC while the 3 rd for Papa. Mama instantly fell in love with the place , suffice it say that it is one of the most beautiful places that we've been ...there are so many exciting & memorable places to visit
the first day was more like "overview visit" ....we learned the layout of the city and how to use the subway .....there's just so much to see & do but during these short days of winter nothing much could be done if it's not properly planned ......since we started out the day a bit late, we couldnt go to many places & we just spent the rest of the afternoon outdoors, snapping pictures of the White House from afar ( cuma dapat visit kat luaq gate saja ...banyak sungguh aih police dok jaga) ....
then we went to see the Washington Monument & the Reflecting Pool but by the time we got there it was already dark so we couldnt get good shots of those landmarks.
a note to mama's fwen :
Eza, DC really gave me that sweet emotion like London did..ha...haa...

having spent 6 wonderful , amazing & emotionally exhilarating years together ( we've cried together, prayed together, struggled through hard times together, laughed together, and had more, more fun after the kids arrive)......
and been blessed with these two perfect gifts & raising them together..........what more could we ask for .
such blessings & unlimited goodness we've been receiving could only come from Allah and for that we are deeply humbled and so eternally thankful

Way to go, Iman
|
|
Papa wasnt able to join us for a short performance by Iman & his classmates ....with little Ihsan who's always on the go (didnt want to sit still in his stroller for longer than 5 mins during the performance ) and two cameras to operate , I just couldnt go easy on myself ......so Mama ended up snapping only 5 photos all from the same viewing spot .....but somehow managed to videotape the whole performance for Papa to view ......
As expected, Mama got all teary-eyed ( I so understand now that being a mom, everything about kids is so emotional) ...... seeing him singing, dancing & reciting poems .....awwwww....the joy was indescribable & it brought profound satisfaction

Frosty Fun
|
|
another snowy, blowy day.....and the possibilities for snow play are endless ....so it's just another day for the boys to pull on their snowsuits & plunge into a day of frosty fun......wheeeeeee
we thought that it's a perfect time for sledding although it was a really cold day after considerable snow fall (the temp was -7 or -8 C) ......so we called up our Indonesian friends and they agreed to join us .......their kids, Lila & Haikal (much older than ours) were as excited as Iman to slide down the steep snowy hill which is not far from our house . ......
before Mama gave that final approval to go outdoors , Mama went back & forth making sure that everyone (termasok la Papa ) had winter coats, gloves, hats and other cold-weather paraphernalia on ......(the kids were so bundled up that they could hardly walk especially Ihsan ) .......other than that we didnt need much equipment to slide down the snowy hill except for a simple sled which we (and our Indonesian friends) took turns using it .
It was Iman & Ihsan's first day on a sled ....Iman was so thrilled (sampai tak mau stop main dgn Lila, mama pon naik risau) ....Ihsan seemed to like it except when the snow flew and came on his face......so Papa used his boots to slow down the descent....and later......it's Mama & Papa 's turn (mmg best gila but when the snow came all over the face, it was quite painful )........well, that is one thing , and getting down is quite another ... a bit frightening when it went too fast & out of control (Mama la sorang yg takut ...org lain ok saja )
for over an hour , the kids & the dads took turns sliding down the hill......and they finally stopped when it had gotten much colder.......here are some fun shots of the kids, Pakcik Elan & Papa having a cool time there

Snowy Day Off
|
|
snow is no excuse to let off school........... but that day Iman had a snowy day off .......whooohooooo ......school cancellation was announced over local tv & radio at about 6.30 am due to the first winter storm of the season and the total accumulation of snow exceeded 6 inches
the day began with extra time to sleep .......after peeping from the window, Iman just couldnt get back to sleep .....once the snow day adrenaline kicked in , who can??? .... he couldnt wait around , couldnt wait another second to go outside & play snow with his brother......but Mama announced that there'll be no outdoor fun until he finished doing his Kumon ........so that's okay....nothing can dampen spirits on snow day
after everyone was clean , the brothers went outside & played (Mama didnt snap any pictures ).........later that evening, they went out again when Papa had to clear the sidewalk in front of our home......when Ihsan started to remove his mittens with his teeth, bared both hands .... Mama insisted that everyone stopped playing, came in & thawed.....and of course both were mad & Ihsan began to cry........
after dinner, Iman kept asking about the next day's weather (he was hoping for another day off ).....i think speculation about the weather is of the utmost importance to him now and all other school kids ..... will school be closed again tomorrow? ....
