MORE PICTURES OF IMAN, IHSAN & TULIPS AT VELDHEER TULIP FARM
|
|
| Quote: | Tulip is the ~Flower of Spring~ and symbolises ~ Imagination~ ~Dreaminess~ ~Perfect Lover~ ~A declaration of love~ |
| Quote: |
The name tulip originates from the Turkish word, ~tulbend~ meaning turban, because it resembled the colourful Turkish tulband (turban). The word was later corrupted to ~tulipan~ and much later, abbreviated to tulip.
|
| Quote: | | A thousand years ago,Tulips grew wild in Persia. Found in central Asia in 1554. Native to Turkey, Iran, Syria, and parts of Asia. The Turks of the Ottoman Empire were the first culture to cultivate and hybridize the tulip. Persian poets sang its praises, and their artists drew and painted it so often, that the tulip was considered to be the symbol of the Ottoman Empire. Holland has been the main breeder and supplier of new cultivars for hundreds of years. Tulips became a status symbol for the rich, as only the wealthy in Holland could afford them. They were called ~Pot of Gold~ because of their high cost. |
| Quote: | | According to legend, a Persian youth named Farhad, fell in love with a maiden named Shirin. One day, word reached him that she had been killed. Gripped by unbearable grief, he mounted his favorite horse and galloped over a cliff to his death. From each drop of blood that trickled onto the ground, from his wounds a scarlet tulip sprang, a symbol of his perfect love. Due to this, the red tulip became a symbol of passionate love in ancient Persia. |

TULIPS
|
|
After the Dutch Village we went to Holland's only tulip farm - Veldheer Tulip Farm. There were about 5 million tulips with 125 varieties which covered over 30 acres of the farm.

SPRING has SPRUNG
|
|
Winter was finally over. We were in the transition part of spring ...we had both cold & warm spells but it gradually warmed up all the way through.
As to welcome the spring's arrival, we took Iman & Ihsan to Holland ( not Netherlands but the one in Michigan,USA ).
| Quote: | How did it get the name?
In 1846, due to religious oppression and economic depression of the Netherlands at that time, a group of Hollanders left their homeland for America in hope for a better life. They docked in New York, then Dr Van Raalte and his group continued the journey to the west looking for the most desirable location for his Dutch colony . Then more and more Hollanders arrived and settled there. |
Holland, Michigan is home to the world famous Tulip Time festival each May when more than 6 million tulips burst into bloom covering the city in color. Holland also celebrates its Dutch heritage during this month. So we went there on the first day the Tulip Time festival began.
The weather on that day was fine, the wind felt so soothing, the sun was just bright & beautiful...it's perfect.. First, we went to the Dutch Village to experience a bit of old Holland
.....a village with authentic Dutch architecture, canals, windmills. There , we were also being entertained by a group of Klompen(wooden shoes) dancers dancing to the dutch music.. There were just lots of things to learn and view about the history and culture of the Dutch. Everything there depicts a Dutch country scene...how a Dutch family lived....and farmed....how wooden shoes ( Klompen) are made...and so on...

Right after birth we wanted Ihsan to be immediately circumcised but due to some minor problem, it was delayed until the age of 6 months and up. So we waited until he turned 6 months. But everytime the surgery has been scheduled, he would be sick prior to the date .The procedure should be performed only on stable, healthy infants. And that kept us rescheduling and cancelling the surgery in the space of 6 months .
BEFORE THE SURGERY
AFTER THE SURGERY
Finally, after turning 1, the circumcision was performed by a urologist, Dr. Bartkowsky. In order to reduce the stress for the baby and minimize discomfort, anesthesiologist provided Ihsan general anesthesia before the surgery.
Only Papa was there to accompany Ihsan when the induction was carried out(as Mama has to pick Iman up from school). Once Ihsan has fallen asleep, Papa has to be out of the operating room (family members are not allowed to stay there and observe the surgery).
Later, after the surgery all of us met in the outpatient surgery area and waited for Ihsan to wake up before taking him home.
Alhamdulillah everything went well during and after the surgery ( no infection or serious bleeding)

FOUR and A VERY IMPORTANT HALF
|
|
"Have I hugged my baby today?". Today he is 4 & a half ....four and a very important half
He's not a baby anymore and it's hard to recall those days bringing him home from the hospital...a clueless little bundle who only knew how to cry, sleep and eat.....He's grown now....and will soon be leaving his toddlerhood - the phase that presents its own challenges....
Though parenting a toddler isn't always easy, it can also be one of life's most fulfilling experiences.

EVERYTHING ABOUT TRUCKS, TRAINS, CARS, BIKES.......
|
|
Is it true that some toys are innately meant for boys and others for girls? Boy toy? Girl toy? Don't know whether it is true or not....or these gender-based categories are actually constructed by people.. ..dictated by the society?
However, our finding (with Iman) ...shows that he seems fascinated by construction sets and any kinds of vehicles since he was 1. . He spends more time with these toys than any other things.....could spend the whole morning playing with his toy car...just pushing it around.
Generally, rough and active play is more favored by boys...but of course there are also girls who are as physically active as boys and show interest in toys for boys,

Being ONE
|
|
Now that he's past his 1st b'day....there are so many things to look into - like when he stops nursing, weaning him from the bottle, introducing him to the taste of plain whole milk...and more and more....

Watching him move from one stage of development to another is what I (as a mother) consider as a bittersweet experience (more of mixed feelings) - you feel joy with pride seeing how grown up he is and at the same time you feel a bit sad knowing that he'll never be a baby again especially when he starts to reject the babyhood he's outgrown.
